Testing Before Surgery

All patients undergo extensive testing prior to weight reduction surgery. All appointments must be made as soon as possible, especially if you have private insurance and need pre-certification. Any appointments or testing that are not fulfilled one week prior to surgery will result in cancellation of your surgery date.

  • Preop testing (780-5060) will call you and will arrange appointments for your blood work, EKG, chest x-ray, sonogram of your liver & gallbladder, and upper GI series (if needed) approximately 2 months before the surgery date. All tests should be completed within 1 month of your surgery date. If you are not contacted by the preop testing by 6 weeks prior to surgery, please make an effort to contact them and schedule the appointment.
  • Please call (246-8600) or personally walk over to the medical pavilion (263 7th Avenue, across the street from the hospital) and make an appointment with the nutritionist (ask for Claudia).
Please make an appointment with your medical doctor for medical clearance to have surgery.
  • You need to see Dr. Gorecki 1-2 weeks prior to surgery for a preoperative visit. Please make appointment for preoperative visit well in advance to avoid overbooking.
  • You must have a detail psychiatric evaluation. You are welcome to use a psychiatrist of your choice. If you do not have a psychiatrist call (965-3938) for an appointment with Dr Nassyr. Jessie may also arrange for the Mental Health Clinic (780-3776) to call you for an appointment. If you have any questions please call Jessie at 780-3288.
  • Additionally we may require that you have an endoscopy or an upper GI series, depending on your past medical history. Jessie will arrange for the endoscopy appointment and Preop testing will arrange for the upper GI series.

It is very important that you return messages concerning appointments as soon as possible. If there are any problems, or you have not been contacted, please notify Jessie (780-3288). Please understand that testing will take some time until it is completed. We appreciate your compliance and your patience. Also, please keep in mind that these are general guidelines and depending on the individual patients medical history, variations in testing may occur.
